The MS Win version of Netscape 8.1 has been out for some time now. What is the status of that version for linux?
Netscape 8.x is a hybrid made by AOL from Firefox and IE. Since IE requires windoze, I doubt there will ever be a Netscape 8.x version for anything other than windoze, unless the decide on some way to add a Mac version. Besides, Netscape 8 is only a browser with junk added for the benefit of dweebs who use doze and want AOL-like features whether or not they use AOL. Netscape the ISP is just like AOL the ISP in that it uses proprietary connection software that precludes use on open source operating systems. Linux users who think they want Netscape actually want SeaMonkey, which is the current version of the application suite that provided the basis for Netscape 6 and Netscape 7, except that SeaMonkey leaves out the Netscape junk add-ons and adds the new and improved features that Mozilla would have had had it not been discontinued (security bug fixes are in the plans for it, but no development or feature changes). -- "Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord."
