1) I have both a CDRW and a Double layer DVD-RW. SuSE 9.0 recognized both from the get-go and I had no problems using either. In SuSE 9.2, even though the CDRW is on the fstab and in the configured hardware list in YaST, I have been unable to use it and only can use the DVDRW.
I've had no problems with any of three CDRWs, one single layer DVD+RW and one dual layer DVD+RW - but I did need to take one CDRW and the dual layer DVD to a Windows box to flash the drive's firmware so they would cope with generic media.
3) I had no trouble using my USB 2.0 ports to connect a thumb drive in 9.0 but I haven't been able use my thumb drive, nor a USB MP3 player, in 9.2.
Again, no problems with pen-drives, mp3 players or external HDs (except speed, and the fact that they sometimes get mounted with root only access)
4) My scanner (HP Scanjet 5300C) has been an expensive paperweight in both 9.0 and 9.2.
Yast reports that sane fully supports the device, but I don't have one so can't verify it. Dylan -- "The man who strikes first admits that his ideas have given out." (Chinese Proverb)
