Exactly.
The more memory you have available, the larger cache you get, and the less physical usage of disk i/o. Linux benefits a lot from having lots of memory. Thus, if you have a file server (an ftp server, for instance), and have enough memory, your users will not have to wait till the disk can attend their request. A real sample of that was commented not long ago here.
