If you use only SUSE packages, use YOU (Yast Online Update). That's in Software, as Online Update. If you don't want automatic updates, but want to see what you shall install first, make a cron job with the command online_update -s -d | grep INSTALL That sends you an email when you have to install a package. If you get error messages that you have to specify a server, take one from /var/lib/YaST2/you/youservers and add it to /etc/youservers. If you have other sources as well, there exists no automatic update or update check feature within yast. Then your best bet is apt4rpm, http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/.
