Does anybody know if I can you a bluetooth headset with Suse 10?
Googleing gave me a module "snd_bt_sco" which from the bluetooth-alsa project (on surceforge). I cannot find anything for suse.
Anybody done this before?
I've got my Bluetooth Headset working as an Audio device in SUSE10. Basically I used the kernel module and instructions from the bluetooth-alsa project (the one you already found). Loaded the module, put the headset in discovery mode, and it works. There is a lot of info available on how to build/load the module and what you need to do to get the BT Headset working.
Next problem though... using it with something. I tried to get the BT headset working with Skype, and it was a no-go. It shows up as a new /dev/dsp device that you can select in the Skype options. Skype would just error out and crash along with loads of interestingly garbled sound from the echo123 test I was doing... all the words were jumbled up and out of order. They would come through, but it was like the OS randomly sent individual words at random times...
Booted to Windows and tried again... Skype also crashed in Windows when I tried using the BT headset. I even tried the commercial (Windows only) Skype Bluetooth headset plugin for Skype and it still crashed Skype. So... my guess is the problems were Skype and not the headset :-)
I did get it working with Gizmo, and talked for about 3 hours with my brother (who's 6 or 7000 km away) using the BT headset.
So... getting the actual headset working with SUSE10 wasn't hard (like I said, just followed the instructions for bluetooth-alsa step by step). Finding a use for it... that's another story. I would love to have it working with Skype in Linux, but...

Good news for you... The website has in big bold letters a Heading "NOW WORKS WITH SKYPE!" Okay, I'll give it a try! Jerry
