Computer 2 cannot show images at all. The thumbnails in Konqueror are not showing (I get a blank spot where the thumbnail should be.. just the filename is shown). If I click on the image, Konq asks what to do with the image - as if the file associations are broken. I've checked the file associations, and they are all exactly the same as on the working computer.
If I try to open the image in Gwenview, the viewer opens, and only a black bit is shown where the image should be.
If I try to open the image in Kuickshow it comes up blank as well.
But... if I open the image in KView I can see the image just fine.
Check the file associations in gnome-control-center as well.
Gnome is OK. If I bring up the Gnome file manager (for example) I can see the image thumbnail, and when I open the image, Eye Of Gnome launches and shows the image exactly like it should. I've definitely broken something in KDE... not sure how/what though. Normally I'd just roll back to the previous build/version of KDE... except that I have a second computer running the same updates from APT and it's fine. That's kind of thrown me for a proverbial loop... I've tried all the obvious things like comparing the RPM databases... comparing the settings in KDE and Gnome (I use both WMs) and ... I can't see the differences. I can try rolling back one build on KDE... as far as I can tell the whole thumbnailing and image handling in KDE/Konq is done with stuff from the kdegraphics3 package... If it's just the one package it's easy enough to roll back on version/build... but... is this the first place i should be looking? C.
