Hello all:
What program can be used in suse/linux for capturing video from a digital video camera through usb cabel? dvgrab/kino can use only firewire, can't it?
I'm not quite sure what your referring to. You have a video camera which only has USB out and you want to capture the video from it on the computer? Does the camera have any on-board storage?
If the camera has on-board storage (DV, tape, memory) then you should be just able to plug the camera in and copy the files over to your hard drive after it shows up in Konqueror or Gaelon. That's how I do it from my video camera.

linux - genuine windows replacement part
What he means is (or what I am interpreting is) - his camcorder only has a USB connection not Firewire. So evidently dvgrab with kino can't capture the video (the implication is control of the camera from within kino so he can rewind, play, et... within kino). It does beg the question - what camera is in discussion here? All the camcorders I am aware of have a) 8mm, b) mini-DV or c) some DVD capability. If it has the DVD capability, he would not be asking the question. Thus he has either an 8mm or mini-DV tape. So, paraphrasing his question - how does one capture video (and presumably audio) over USB? Remembering that Google (or your favorite search tool) is your freind, I found vgrabbj (http://vgrabbj.gecius.de/) is one tool that may help. I got it from http://www.exploits.org/v4l. Another interesting tool would be http://camsource.sourceforge.net/. It sort of makes one think a bit - USB & video - WebCAM! To capture the audio & video that should work. It won't be integrated into an NLE (Non-Linear Editor) like kino or MainActor but the end result is you're able to get the video on your system. There is one link that indicates an older version of dvgrab maybe usefull - http://wiki.tcl.tk/10621. UNfortunately, it may take some work. Istvan, I hope this helps... looking into webcam software to cpature may be your best bet initially.
