Why not, as root /at/ root: cp -rp /boot /bootbak ? I just checked in /lib/modules and it appears every previous kernel configuration is still there in it's own directory, I assume preserved in the event a rollback is necessary.
This seems to me to be a non-sequitur. (And there is such a thing as _too much_ quote trimming.) I was responding in the contrary to Felix's suggestion that Midnight Commander was preferable "when dealing with multiple files scattered in various locations"
