Now that grub was restored as boot loader I need to add Windows XP (in hda9) to Grub menu. I read some tutorial and articles and they make me understang that typing: title Windows XP hide (hd0,0) unhide (hd0,8) rootnoverify (hd0,8) chainloader +1 makeactive ...would make windows xp to boot, but the following error apears: "Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7 chainloader +1" I can load windows 98 (in hda1) just with the lines -- I had already tried this for windows xp also: title Windows 98 root (hd0,0) chainloader +1 Any help? a. My guess, is that booting with rescue disk and typing: $root $grub grub>root (hd0,5) grub>setup (hd0) grub>quit
boot with CD1 rescue system
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt # whatever is your root filesystem also mount /dev/hdaX /mnt/boot if you have a separate boot partion
chroot /mnt
grub-install /dev/hda
exit reboot
