Jerry, I don't know what you mean by the "lock session" and "logout" buttons. I guess I must not have those on my bar, because with the "show tooltips" unchecked absolutely nothing on my bar shows a tooltip. With it checked every icon shows a tooltip, the clock shows a tooltip, the multiple desktops show a tooltip, and every open program shows a tooltip. Even the "hide panel" buttons show a tooltip. But absolutely everyone of them goes away if I uncheck the "show tooltips" box.
The "lock session" and "logout" buttons may be added by adding that lock/logout applet to the panel using the panel menu. The Appearance & Themes/Style Enable Tooltips button apparently affects some apps, such as SuSE watcher, and the Desktop/Panels/Appearance/Show tooltips affects most of the things embedded in the panels. Also, I noticed that "Enable icon mouseover effects seems to disable the tooltips.

As i wrote before ''tooltips'' doesn't work on my computer. I turned off everywhere and tooltips show everywhere still.
