I am using KDE at home (still have Windows people who use my machine, and this is familar), used gnome on a friends system and an old one when I set it up as Samba, then switched off x (just wanted the option). I realize that KDE is more of a memory hog, but if I was looking for something lite, I've been wanting to play with ones like fluxbox. After this discussion, I figure I will use Ubuntu for a month or two, then swap it to Gentoo. As long as I have one working system, I should just play with the other.
Top posting is naughty. Anyway, I used to think this way, have one working system play with the others. Then it turned into, well, I need one with XP for school sometimes so two working systems play with the third. Well, that turned into an FTP box and the other is my web server now. So now, I have this box which I use daily which dual boots 98 SE and SUSE 9.3, my laptop which does XP and 9.3, my "play" box which has CentOS on it right now for testing. And my Compaq with SUSE as an FTP server and SSH box. Lol, now I need another test box or 10
Thanks all
If you want to learn more then first what desktop are you using at the moment? I'm willing to bet that you may have both KDE and Gnome installed on your SuSE PC but are actually only using one and not bothering with the other. If you use Gnome then install Kubuntu on the other PC. If it KDE you have on the SuSE PC then go for Ubuntu. Obviously do not install the rival desktop as well. My reasoning for suggesting this is that first you are able to learn about a Debian system without all the bloat of the full blown Deb Sarge. Secondly, you also get to learn about a different desktop without being tempted to log into what is already nice and safe and familiar.
I use Enlightenment :)
