These machines are for server co-locations. Therefore it should be stabled, since I cannot go there to often! The hardware should fit in a 1 unit rackmount case (btw. which one?), since I pay by "space".
Sun Fire V20z (or V40z if you need more). http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v20z/index.jsp
I would like to have a recommendation for hardware, which works STABLED under SuSE 10, and is easy to install.
SuSE 10 was only just released, but I doubt if you'll have any problems with this box.
I want to install this on multiple machines. What is the fastest way to install the server on multiple machines?
Install on one, then dd the partitions to the other harddisks whilst installed in one box. Alternatively, use autoyast.
The machines will differ only with the IP address and host name, .... I thought on using RAID. Could it work, to install RAID on the first machine, and than take one hard disk out, and replace it with a new one, use the removed disk for the next server, with a new second hard disk ..... ????
Yes, that'll work too.
The idea is, that RAID should fix the missing hard disk, if it gets a new one, .... If it works that way, how?
Install the first server on your RAID1 mirror. Then raidhotremove drive#2 and raidhotadd new spare. Put drive#2 into server #2, and raidhotadd a new spare as drive#1. You'll need to wait for it to sync, then you repeat the process. /Per Jessen, Zürich
