The sound is not muted. I get sound occasionally when I test the sound in the KDE control center but I then sound does not work when I use an application like Krecord or amarok. When I switch off the sound in the KDE control center then I sometines get sound in Krecord. Seems like the applications are fighting to get hold of the soundcard and then block all other applications.
Can you please tell me how to fix the problem? Thank you!
Sounds very much like the ArtsD problem that 9.3 seems to be plagued with check the archives it was a big topic not too long ago
Try going into Yast -> Hardware -> Sound once. My upgrade of 9.1 to 9.3 fudged something up, and Yast reported "two" instances of the sound card running and would fix it. As a FYI, I just did a upgrade to 10.0 and it's fixed. Dana
