Looking for a non-X solution, especially when installing software on servers with no X at all.
YaST can be run in ncurses mode via ssh, can't it?
Besides, after adding a new source directory in Yast, I can't find how to navigate to it within Yast to install the rpm.
YaST creates and displays an aggregate listing using data from all of the sources you've defined. To locate a specific package using the ncurses version of YaST: In the "Install and Remove Software" (before 9.3) or "Software Management" (current) module, tab to the bottom row and highlight "Search" then hit 'Enter'. In the search box, type in all or part of the name of the package you want to add and hit 'Enter'. YaST will search all of the sources and display a list of packages. Select the one you want and mark it for installation using the plus sign "+" key. YaST will pick up and automatically add other packages to meet dependencies, assuming they're available. FYI, if you drop unexpectedly into dependency hell in the ncurses version, it is easy to screw up and lose track of your selections and changes. When that happens, I usually just abort the process and start over. Is this the kind of information you're looking for? - Carl
