I have SMTP configured to give incoming email to postfix. postfix then puts it into the correct folder for the user in /var/spool/mail.
I want to set up Thunderbird on another machine on the same LAN to retrieve email from those user mailboxes in /var/spool/mail. I would like one user on the machine I want to read the mail on to open Thunderbird, retrieve mail from 3 different user accounts on the postfix / SMTP box and put it into various folders in Thunderbird.
Is this possible?
I take it you mean the box you want to read email on is different from the one you're receiving the mail on. This is very possible, you are effectively setting up a meil server. There are many ways to do it, but the simplest has to be to simply set up and enable qpopper. Then just set thunderbird to read from three different POP3 accounts on that machine and you're done To enable qpopper, just go to Network Services and enable it there
