Why are event sounds in KDE and Gnome wav files. Why not ogg?
Because the overhead of decoding an ogg on such a small file would be over the top. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the ogg ended up being larger than the wav for a simple ping sound, and the replay became disconnected from the triggering event due to the decode lag.
