No, the "Sent"-Folder is included in the IMAP folders.
So, even if the outgoing message goes from client mail-reader on my laptop directly to the ISP's SMTP, the act of hitting "Send" in the client mail reader still causes a copy to be sent to the IMAP server on the local network server box?
