man cp -p same as -- preserve=mode,ownership,timestamps -R, -r, --recursive - copy directories recursively This is correct. I believe that the original poster, Albert, had a problem with cp. cp -Rp /directory1 /directory2 This will create the following directory tree: /directory2/Directory1/....
In any case using the form above also avoids problems with the shell and
widlcard expansion.
