I guess a good qeustion to ask is Why do you prefer 1 over the other?
I use KDE today because at one point, the gnome developers started doing something they persisted in calling 'usability'. Listening to them speak was a little like reading Sigmind Freud's directives to the prospective psychoanalyst: Make up your mind about the ailment, and don't let the patient's words sway you. They knew best, and people who disagreed where just stupid or ignorant. At one point after gnome2 came out I actually liked it.Then they started ripping out features, more and more for each version, in the name of 'usability', to the point where for me today it's practically useless. All the while KDE kept adding functionality and features and making it cooler and cooler. Today KDE is so feature rich I don't think it has a match anywhere, and looking forward to KDE4 it seems to just get better and better End of commercial :) But that's why I use KDE. It let's me do everything I want, and quite a few things I didn't know I wanted but which are quite cool anyway
