On my SuSE 9.0 system I have the ability to add/remove USB devices, as most distros do. On my desktop I have an icon, which I labeled Kalliba USB. It is configured to address the /media/sda1 device in location /home/hylton/Desktop. When the USB key is attached, at any time, and I click on it, it will mount the drive and display its contents. No problem so far On my desktop I also have an icon that normally only appears if the USB key is plugged in when the system is booted. This icon is called sda1 and also addresses /media/sda1 and whose location is /tmp/kde-hylton/Desktop-0. If the key is plugged in after the system boots the 'sda' icon takes a LONG time to appear on the desktop whilst the Kalliba icon functions immediately as it is displayed all the time, whether the key is plugged in or not. What I would like to do is delete my 'Kalliba' icon and configure the 'sda1' to appear a little quicker OR stop the 'sda1' icon from appearing if the USB is plugged in at boot and configure the 'Kalliba' icon to only appear(but appear quickly) when the USB key is plugged in. Below are the USB lines of my /etc/fstab with the USB key plugged in at boot and hence being able to access it via the 'sda1' icon or the 'Kalliba' icon. My fstab is as such(please excuse line wrapping): usbdevfs /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs noauto 0 0 /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 auto sync, noauto, user, exec 0 0 #HOTPLUG B3Fu.SMyZ+shmuHA How can I achieve a single quick appearing icon, on plugging the USB key in, on my KDE desktop so that I can access the USB key? Ideas or just stick with the way it works? -- ======================================================================== Hylton Conacher - Linux user # 229959 at http://counter.li.org Currently using SuSE 9.0 Professional with KDE 3.1 ========================================================================
