Yes, if you have findutils-locate installed. It would update your database sometime just after midnight local time if you left your computer running, but since you shut it down, it is performing that task on the first boot of the day.
note: linux is set to run some tasks that put heavy demands on the cpu at times the computer usage is normally light, ie: while you sleep.

I do have "findutils" and "findutils-locate" installed. So that causes an auto-rebuild every 24 hours? How is this controlled? Is it via an etc/init.d/rc5.d entry or is it started via some other mechanism? Thanks, Greg Wallace
