If you are trying to do a system wide backup it must be done as the root user. Either login as root or do a sux and then start k3b.
Me again.
Doing it as sux:
erikja@lajka3:~> sux Password: lajka3:/home/erikja # k3b bash: k3b: command not found lajka3:/home/erikja #
If I shall start it up as root, I need to change the runlevel to 3. Now its 5. Thats no problem, but then I cannot run K3B due to that SuSE has stopped for running K3B under root. I don't know the reason, but I have got the info from a SuSE employe.

Hi,
this is pretty much interesting, for if I become root, write "k3b" and press <Enter>, it launches as expected on my SuSE 9.2.
Then I asked myself where it is located: "/opt/kde3/bin/k3b".
I guess either your path isn't set up right. Try "sux -" instead of "sux" That sets up the correct environment.
And you for sure don't need to change to runlevel 3. This would even prevent k3b to run since it needs the X server.

Hi Martin. Here is my k3b. The same place as where you have it. /opt/kde3/bin/k3b With sux - it works fine now. Thank you. Erik
