Greetings,
Has anyone here successfully setup a dial in to the internet server in Suse 9.X (ie windowze box dials in and connects to internet) What steps should I follow?
I can't find any decent readmes or HOW-TOs. Please note I am new to networking and don't have the picture of how this works.
So far: I have mgetty configured with AUTOppp, on connection the line is dropped, from a terminal I can log in, but only see pppd starting. But it wont give me a valid IP. I have enabled ip_forward and added a rule to my iptables to forward traffic from ppp to ipaddr of gateway.
mgetty is not for dialing into your ISP, it is used for people to dial into you, kinda like answering machine software for a PC. Is this what you are trying to do? Setup yourself as an ISP?
Yes! this is my big idea ;), but you have to tell mgetty what to do once it has answered the call and that is where I am stuck. Currently it only allows me to login vi terminal. I want it to route traffic to and from my internet connection, which is on a different box. The minute I put /AUTOppp/ option in the config, PC A dials, PC b answers,, waits,, and drops the line. If I try dialing with a terminal session, PC A dials and PC b answers, on screen on screen on PC A I am prompted to login - I do - and funny characters start running across the terminal, then after 5 or six lines they stop. ifconfig reveals no ppp0 interface. Hence I have no clue what I am to do from here? -- Chadley Wilson Redhat Certified Technician Cert Number: 603004708291270 Pinnacle Micro Manufacturers of Proline Computers ==================================== Exercise freedom, Use LINUX =====================================
