I am trying to install an external Quantum SDLT320 drive on SLES9 x86-64. It is connected through an HP SCSI card (LSI MPT Fusion chipset).
I get Device or resource busy whenever I try to do anything:
# mt -f /dev/st0 status mt: /dev/st0: Device or resource busy
Snippets from dmesg:
Fusion MPT base driver 3.01.14.23 Copyright (c) 1999-2004 LSI Logic Corporation ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:06:02.0[A] -> GSI 78 (level, low) -> IRQ 78 mptbase: Initiating ioc0 bringup Fusion MPT SCSI Host driver 3.01.14.23 scsi0 : ioc0: LSI53C1030, FwRev=01032300h, Ports=1, MaxQ=255, IRQ=78 st: Version 20040318, fixed bufsize 32768, s/g segs 256 Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0 st0: try direct i/o: yes (alignment 512 B), max page reachable by HBA 4503599627370495
Any ideas? What else should I try?

I have not had any luck talking to tape drives until I invoke stinit. The SUSE 9.2 rpm is on the DVD only. Also, it does not include /etc/stinit.conf (IIRC), so you will have to create one. We have talked about some on this list before, so search the archives. Greg -- Greg Freemyer
