I know that you can use it on Windows without Netware, one of our consultants did it for a client. And I think the version 6.5 of ZenWorks run on linux, but you would need to verify whether it's already stable or still in beta

Can you use Zen works without the Netware?
If you want to manage windows dekstop, you should have a look at Zen. We use it to manage our windows dekstops (we use linux only on the servers) a.bridge@insightbb.com wrote on 10/02/2005 15.48.47:
Thank you for the input. I guess my main concern is desktop management and group policy as Microsoft calls it. I am going to look at the Novell Linux Desktop but to be honest with you I don't see our users making the change. Again, Desktop management is my main concern. As far as DHCP, DNS, File and Print sharing...the basic network components go, I feel I have a handle on it. And Webmin is going to turn out to be very helpful I think.
It is worth trying Novells site they have something on migrating from NT running right now. http://www.novell.com/linux/windowstolinux/
I know it is not a book but in combination with one of the box you have it may give you some ideas, also you can ask them for a step by step guide or something like that.
Good luck. George

I am looking for a book that someone could recommend, and has used, that would help with a migration from a Windows server platform to linux. Preferably Suse if possible. I have seen several books (ie "Window to Linux" etc...) that cover the topic but would like to get some feed back from those currently taking on this task or have completed this task.
Thanks,
