Dear Peter,
I manually installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-6629-pkg2.run and got the nvidia logo but when I issue the glxinfo command the machine freezes completely. Something wrong with OpenGL I guess. Here is part of my XF86Config. I added the Load "dri" line though it behaves the same way w/o it. Hi Alberto,
You may have just gone beyond my level of expertise. I have a MX5200 nvidia card w/ 128MB video mem. Anders helped me get it working. Here is part of the output of the glxinfo cmd issued as a reg user: inux:~> glxinfo name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation server glx version string: 1.3 server glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_NV_float_buffer client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation client glx version string: 1.3 client glx extensions: GLX_ARB_get_proc_address, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_NV_swap_group, GLX_NV_video_out, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_swap_control, GLX_NV_float_buffer GLX extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_NV_float_buffer, GLX_ARB_get_proc_address OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce FX 5200/AGP/SSE/3DNOW! So I suspect all is well here. There maybe a h/w prob with the individual card in your machine. If you can get another similar card or a PC of similar configuration you can test there. There are others on this list who go beyond my skills. Lets see what they can offer. PeterB p.s. While I don't have any objections to getting your email directly, you deprive yourself of the "Many eyes" of the SUSE'ers all over the world that have insight into our probs. Please reply to the list
