Well, I have no personal experience but http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2001jan/chi20010123003931.htm says a lot I think. If I recall correctly, the situation may be somewhat better though for an Itanium2 due to better hardware - x86 support. I'd consider using the Itanium for the heavy number crunching only and invest 300 €/$ in a cheap box for your desktop stuff. Kolja
