What are these boot parameters about? I tried to google up some information but found nothing instructive except the connection between apic and Nvidia cards.
I was advised to try one of these three during bootup to get past a freeze. None worked, but the first one, apic, froze me at Setting up CMOS Clock whereas the others froze me at the INIT setup.
So what does all this mean?
Thanks

As I understand it, the APIC is a interrupt controller chip. In a multi-cpu server, it makes sure that the interrupts get assigned to more than one CPU. I was doing some IDE disk speed tests last week and I tried APIC and NOAPIC. On my 9.2 bosex, SUSE is defaulting to APIC. I found that NOAPIC was about 25% faster, so I have set them all to NOAPIC.
