I have a gateway solo 9300 laptop (PIII, 288M ram) whcih I used to run suse 8.2 on. Since the harddrive had become to small I bought a new harddisk (a hitcahi 60G/5400rpm ) and installed suse 9.2 on it. Suse 9.2 is dead slow on this machine, looking through dmesg and kernel logs I noticed a lot of dma/hda irq errors. [dead slow, meaning it can take upto 10 minutes to get the K/gecko menu open] After fiddling with a variety of settings (acpi=off, apm=off, dma=off) I gave up, installed suse 8.2 in a spare partition, and this seems to work just fine and just as fast as before. Does anyone have a clue ? I would (very much) prefer to run suse 9.2 on this machine (mainly because of the excellent bluetooth support).
