Dear SUSE users,
I updated my system today (9.2), via you and my workstation panics! The error is the following:
reiserfs: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted. reiserfs: version magic '2.6.8-24.10-um gcc-3.3'should be '2.6.8-24.10-smp SMP 586 REGPARM gcc-3.3' ... error inserting 'reiserfs.ko': -1 Invalid module format
So no reiserfs module no rootfs!
Help, please!!!
Hello
The same thing happened to me. I put in the original DVD and ran the automatic system checks after choosing the Install option. After it told me that I was missing an important file from the minimum system setup, it then failed to install what it said it needed, but I let it complete all checks and then powered off and for the heck of it, I turned it back on and it came up normally and worked. I have no idea why the auto fix said it failed and I have no idea why it works now, but the good news is that it does work.
Best of luck...

I was not so lucky. Running repair off of the installation DVD did not fix the problem for me. I also tried fetching the latest kernel-*.rpm's from ftp.suse.com and then did a rpm -V from the "rescue system" shell, and it did not find any significant differences. I even tried doing rpm -Uvh --root /mnt --force -p kernel-um-2.6.8-24.10.i586.rpm to reinstall reiserfs.ko (the file booting complains about), but it made no difference. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them, as I now have 3 systems dead with this problem and one more that will fail if there's a power glitch, since YOU has already done its damage on it. -Earl
