My guess is that somehow your player isn't being properly recognized and handled by Linux.
OK thanks as this is good help. I will use my son's PC I guess and get some MP3's on it. It's very nice unit with the FM capabilities also. Records voice as well.

Not so fast. I've only casually followed this thread. it seems that the hardcore (read smart persons) methods haven't had the desired results so I thought I'd offer my more simplistic method (assuming you have some kde stuff installed). Have you tried finding and mounting the device with kDiskfree? #/opt/kde3/bin/kdf Just thought I'd offer the idea, if its way off base then no harm done.
