I have VMware 4.0 workstation running on a Windows XP machine. However, after I load the NIC modules and try to connect via FTP for the install it always comes up with a red box saying no network modules are used. When I do a clean install on a empty hard drive I never have any problems using the same FTP methods. It seems to be a VMware Problems. Has anyone experienced the same or have any suggestions? Thanks as always.
Make sure that you're installing the right NIC module. If you're installing under VMWare, note that the hardware is what VMWare presents, not your machine's physical hardware. For example, you may have an Intel network card and an Elsa sound card, or a 3-Com NIC and an old Turtle Beach sound card, but the guest will always see an AMD 79c970 (PCnet32 Lance) for the NIC, and an Ensoniq ES1371 for the sound - because that's what VMWare presents. Once you've added those, you can go to "display loaded modules" in the installer (under the part where there's system information - I forget the name) to see if it actually loaded, or you can look at the network devices in the same place to see if you have an eth0. I've installed most SuSEs over the network under recent VMWares with no problem, so the problem "probably" isn't VMWare... --Danny
