Hey Folks,
I have an Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 SCSI adapter, to which I have connected an
HP StorageWorks DAT 72x6 autoloader tape drive. The Adaptec card checks out
on its own onboard diagnostics, and it sees the tape drive. When I boot SuSE
9.1, the tape drive lcd gives a "SCSI Error: Check Interface" error message.
dmesg tells me:
host 0 channel 0 id 5 lun16777216
LUN larger than allowed by host adapter
and:
Adaptec AIC7xxx EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA Driver Rev. 6.2.36
aic7892: Ultra 160 Wide Channel A, SCSI ID=7, 32/253 SCBs
It seems to me like the driver is not reading the LUN correctly. I know the
current driver on the unofficial Adaptec page (Justin's Linux Page) is listed
as 6.3.6, and SuSE 9.1 uses 6.2.36. That page had SuSE rpms, but the latest
SuSE version they were built for was 8.2. I don't know if this was fixed in
this newer driver, but I figured it would be worth a try.
Could anyone tell me:
(1) what I need to read/do to be able to upgrade this driver?
(2) any other ideas to fix the underlying problem?
I would be very grateful.
John
