Hi. I'm using Suse 9.1 Pro. I have a very low Internet conection, so to update Gnome to 2.8, in work I go to usrlocalbin.org, and donwload all files, burn to CD and go home to update it. First, I try a "rpm -Fvh --test *.rpm" to see dependencies problems. I have several. Some of them was solve installing rpms that was in cd but not installed yet, so "-F" don't try to install. Other, as Evolution can solve, then, cause I don't use evolution, I uninstall evolution from my machine, so this will not be update. I have to install other packages from Suse9.1DVD, as gail2. After that, only a package was not solve "gswitchit" or something so. This package, that was installed, conflict with new gnome-applets-2.6.0. I try to uninstall gswitchit, but this no solve. I don't understand who a package that was unistalled can cause problem with other new ¿?. Finally I force install with "rpm -Fvh --force --nodeps *.rpm". After that reboot. First problem was gdm. It did not work. It complain about gdm.conf. File exists, but maybe worst configuration. Well login in terminal mode, and after that run "startx" (I usually do when not using gdm some years ago). X starts and seems to begin gnome, but it paint light blue background, and display a rectangle in the middle of screen, but this was white (no icons or image in this rectangle). After a few minutes, X close. Gdm is important, but I prefer now to solve gnome 2.8 load problem. What should I do to solve this problem?. What's log do you need to help me?. XFree works fine, so you don't need XFree logs. Thanks
