None of these sites actually says which desktop technology the Novell Desktop is based on, so it's all speculation. I happened to be at LinuxWorld Conference in San Francisco two months ago, where Novell was demonstrating a beta version of the Novell Desktop. I didn't have the time to play with it, but it sure looked like KDE to me...
I have interviewed Miguel de Icaza, Nat Friedman, Chris Schlaeger, Markus Rex, and Jack Messman for my film, the Digital Tipping Point, and I can tell you for certain that Novell is committed to the health and well-being of both desktops.
