Hi Al,
I am trying to as much as possible, by following a book called Hardening Linux, to make my system as secure as i can by closing down any un-necessary ports and services.
I have also been playing with NMAP to scan my machine. I have noticed that CUPS shows up as listening on port 631, If I am printing using cups to another machine, but not allowing others to print to my computer, it is a laptop, will there be any issues with disabling port 631 ?
Have a look here: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ch-sec-services.en.h... That should at least explain a few things for you. Dana
