Hi all.
Newbie from Denmark here.
Here is a command in my etc/crontab file that generates an error email:
-*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons >/dev/null 2>&1
Here is the email that root gets : Subject is Cron
root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons >/dev/null 2>&1 Body of the email is: /bin/sh: line 1: root: command not found
Sounds like it's trying to execute 'root' as though it were a command instead of a user. One of two things I can think of might have happened. Either you have somehow put that line in root's user cron. Check /var/spool/cron/tabs/root and see if the line is in there, if it is delete it If that isn't it, the other option is that /etc/crontab somehow got garbage in it, unprintable characters that you can't see on screen, perhaps as a result of corruption somehow. Try opening /etc/crontab in a text editor (as root) and delete that line and retype it
