Unmounting a hard disk partition is impossible when you once went to browse it with konqueror; You have to totally exit X (e.g. by logout) to avoid receiving "device is busy"! I have not such problem in RedHat. In your KDE control panel, find KDE Components --> KDE Performance. Untick "Preload an instance after KDE startup" and then set "Maximum number of instances..." to 0.
This will cause KDE not to keep konqueror browser in memory after you closed it. You can also do this, if all else fails. Say you want to unmount /dev/hdb. Make sure no consoles or konqueror instances are open on that mountpoint. Then do: lsof /dev/hdb This will show you what processes are accessing the device. Kill the offending process and you'll be able to unmount. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za
