Hi cikasole: I noticed that you didn't list an Athlon 64 as a possible choice. When I purchased my system, the difference between a good 32-bit AMD system and the Athlon 64-bit was about $50 (on a $1,000 system). So, given the small difference in price (as most of the components were the same - hard drive, amount of memory, video card, etc.), I went for the 64-bit option. I'm running SuSE 9.1 in 64-bit mode on an AMD Athlon 64 on an Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard. After a number of painful installs, etc., things seem to be working properly. Like you, I checked out the hardware on the SuSE board and the K8V board has only partial support. But, as someone else mentioned, what was really important is the individual components mounted on the MB. Two things I discovered in getting my system up and running was to be sure that you have the latest BIOS upgrade (this solved no end of problems for me) and also, make sure you're using the upgrades from SuSE (I'm now using kernel 2.6.5-7.95 [2.6.4 was shipped on the DVD]). I think these are two of the most important issues in getting SuSE to operate at the 64-bit level. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mike On Thursday 21 October 2004 08:12, Radule Soskic wrote:
Dear SLE members,
I am considering the following HW components for my new PC (suse 9.1 and hopefully 9.2+):
MB: ASUS A7V8X-X CPU: AMD 2500+Barton VideoCard: ATI Radeon 9200SE-TV DVDrec: Pioneer 107D or 108D or A07XLA or A07XLB
I consulted HW database at suse website. There is an indication there that asus MB and Radeon are fully supported, the other two components are not explicitly mentioned.
I remember some threads here on problems with suse+asus and suse+ati. I searched list archives, but there is no so much info on particular models that I have in option. I noticed that asus refuses support to linux users, but if this MB really works with no problems, I think I can live without support.
Please, can anybody from the list post real life experience with any of components from the list above ???
TIA
