Hi all ..
.. I have an ADSL modem on a SuSE 9.1 box and am using pppd to manage the connection.
My ISP seems to have some problems and I often have to try several times to get authenticated (with CHAP) and logged in.
Sitting at the teminal repeatedly sending "pppd call speedtch" can be kind of tiresome, so is there a way to get pppd to keep trying to authenticate until it succeeds?
The pppd man page lists chap-interval, chap-max-challenge and (maybe) chap-restart as options that might do what I need, but doesn't offer any practical advice beyond that.
Ideally I'd like pppd to try to connect at 5 second intervals until it succeeds.
Ccan somebody give me a pointer?
Try the 'persist' option which will attempt to keep the line up. Also use the holdoff option to give yourself the 5 second break.
