Mike, How would you describe the performance, perceived and maybe actual numbers, of suse's 64 bit linux? I'm a coworker of Preston's and we're working on some data crunching and planning to use a setup with this board at the base of it all. Is everything a LOT faster, just a little bit? The work we do now is on P4 2.0GHz machines... we're moving to A64/3500+ CPU's. I know I'm not giving many specs on our work, but I can't really talk about it either. :) Just curious on what performance increases you've seen just by moving to 64-bit. Hi Preston: I'm running SuSE 9.1 in 64-bit mode on an AMD Athlon 64 on an Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard. After a number of painful installs, etc., things seem to be working properly. I checked out the hardware on the SuSE board and the K8V board has only partial support. But, as someone else mentioned, what was really important is the individual components mounted on the MB. Two things I discovered in getting my system up and running was to be sure that you have the latest BIOS upgrade (this solved no end of problems for me) and also, make sure you're using the upgrades from SuSE (I'm now using kernel 2.6.5-7.95 [2.6.4 was shipped on the DVD]). I think these are two of the most important issues in getting SuSE to operate at the 64-bit level. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mike

I run 9.1 on this motherboard. The only issue I had is that I was unable to run two discs on 1 SATA connector. I had to convert the RAID into a regular SATA interface to hook up my second SATA drive. I haven't investigated too far into the problem. Essentially, the disk access hung every time the second drive was to be accessed.
Best regards, Alex.

Quick question,
Has anyone had any experience with running SuSE 9.1 on an Asus A8V motherboard? I'm currently considering building a new Athlon 64 machine using this motherboard and I want to make sure things are supported. Sound doesn't matter on this machine, but I need to make sure things like the SATA controller and the NIC are supported under 9.1 Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
