Hi All! I must be blind, but I cannot figure out what I am getting messages like this: Oct 22 15:10:08 co-app-11 kernel: icmp v4 hw csum failure I googled and found a few references that said to disable checking in the respective kernel module. So far, so good. The problem is that is all started when I made a change to /etc/syslog.conf. I wanted to write all of the non-error cron entries in seperate file. The difference between the two looks like this: co-app-11:/etc # diff syslog.conf.new syslog.conf 4a5
43c44 < *.*;cron.none;mail.none;news.none -/var/log/messages ---
*.*;mail.none;news.none -/var/log/messages 59,61d59 < < cron.* -/var/log/cron < cron.err -/var/log/messages
Where syslog.conf.new is the file that I created last week. I can see the messages file from Wednesday and like a switch, the cron entries stopped being written to /var/log/messages and the "csum failure" messages started. This morning I switched it back to the way it was, restarte syslogd and like a switch the cron entries started and the "csum failure" entries stopped. However, I cannot explain this from the syslog.conf file. Any help is greatly appreaciated. James Mohr
