I downloaded the SP 5C upgrade from the Tapeware site. This version installed without problems on SuSE 9.0 & 9.1 Pro, as well as SLES 9.0. It's been running for several days without any apparent problems. Dave -----Original Message----- From: Christensen, Dave (Brokers Intl, Ltd.) Also installed Red Hat Enterprise Server 3.0, but there as been no change in behavior. Both machines reside on the same subnet and I can still ping either machine from the other. At this point, I'm assuming that I'm seeing a hardware issue as suggested by Anders, either the server NIC or in the networking hardware on the network. That will be the starting point for further investigations. I'll post again when I've solved the problem. Good Afternoon!
I'm trying to install Tapeware 7.0 on a SuSE Enterprise Server 9 box. The TapeWare installer program fires up and lets me get to a point where I can enter either the name or IP address of our master server on our internal network. I've entered the server information into the /etc/hosts file and can ping it by either name or address with no problem. However, after entering the server information (I've tried both IP address and name), the process just sits there. What should happen is that the new install machine will talk to the server, then proceed to the next step of the install.
I've talked to Tapeware support and their answer is that they only support SLES8, or SuSE 7.3 and 8.0. I loaded SLES8 which doesn't find/support my Adaptec RAID controller, then subsequently reloaded SuSE 9.0 which had been on the machine for months with Tapeware loaded and working. The last time with SuSE 9.0 resulted in the install program behaving exactly the same way as it is now behaving with SLES9.
Does anyone have any idea of where I can go from here or has had this experience before?
I had a similar problem with TapeWare 7 on NetWare 6. In my case it was a misconfigured router that didn't allow the TapeWare traffic between the boxes. I can't see other than it could be the kernel or glibc versions that isn't compatible. I run TapeWare perfectly well on SLSTD, SL 9 and 9.1. I haven't tried it yet on SLES9 or SL 9.2, so I can't really help... But take a look at your router/gateways configs. Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting
