on Sun, 31 Oct 2004 17:47:28 +0200*** I'm really disappointed with the 9.1 personal. No developpement tools, no gnome desktop. 9.1 personal is a small Office box.
I'm so disappointed I don't think to be SuSE user anymore.
I am sorry you are dissapointed w/ it, but a question here would have let you know there are no devlopment tools in the personal edition. They were trying to make it eassy for home /new users.. and it says on the box and on the web site that it doesn't contain that stuff... you could have got an upgrade for only slightly more money, and then you would have more things than you can think of... everything from ham radio to make you own gui... and more.
9.1 personal was never intended for Small office or any office, any more than Windows expects most of its users to have a small office setup. That is why they charge you the extra $300-400(??) I forget , and you want to do development... lessee, there's all stuff I see in boxes that isn't free.. those things are in the Pro box. And w/ a little effort you could have downloaded and installed all that stuff for free , even for teh personal edition.
besides, you can go to ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/<ARCH>/9.1 and get any tools that are on pro (INCLUDING GNOME) for FREE.
