It wont harm. It usually looks in the user home directory. It's supposed to look in the /opt/mozilla/plugins/ global directory, but I've come across cases where it didn't, perhaps it was one version of mozilla that was affected, so I had to put the link into /root/.mozilla/plugins for mozilla as root to pick it up.
