I'm thinking about getting a server at ServerMatrix but they don't support Suse. They told me that I would have to install it myself, remotely. I wanted to know how I can install Suse 9.0 totally remotely without ever putting in a cd / floppy. If anyone knows of any how-to guides or has been in the same situation as me any help would be greatly appreciated.
That is possible, but can be complicated. And you risk getting a non-bootable machine, in which case the machine needs a person who puts a CD or a floppy into the machine, reboots it, and removes the CD/floppy afterwards. So be warned, be carefull, and try the procedure out on two machines you have easy physical access to. 1) set the remote machine up so that it boots with the kernel 'linux' and the initrd 'initrd' from the 9.1/boot/loader directory. As kernel parameters, use this: install=http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/i386/9.1 UseSSH=1 SSHPassword=123 (Instead of 123, pick any password you like) 2) reboot the remote machine 3) ssh into the remote machine and follow instructions. If you use the -X option to ssh, you get a graphical YaST! Cheers, Leen
