Howdy!
About a month ago, I bought a new intel machine. The mainboard is the MSI MS-6729. My last board was an MSI MS-6590 Delta-LSR for the AMD processors. I have tried to reinstall 9.0 on the new machin w/o luck. If ACPI is turned on, it won't go to the initial read-out screeen. If ACPI=oldboot, it stops at the hardware detection section and the same for acpi=off. Any ideas as to what I can do to get it working???
Thanks!
On my previous machine, based on a MSI 645E Max2 / MS-6398E motherboard, hardware detection would hang consistently unless I took everything off the USB busses. Even then, the system would hang completely if a USB device was connected later. Digging around (in part on the SuSE-Linux-E list, I think), I discovered that the so-called "legacy USB" support in the motherboard's BIOS was the culprit. Disabling this legacy support allowed hardware detection to proceed normally even when USB devices were connected, either during boot-up or later. Of course, this is just one data point. I have no way of knowing whether this is what you're experiencing, but you might want to check out if your BIOS has a "legacy" mode for USB and if it's on and if so whether turning it off helps.
