After update from a patch cd from my other system this 2nd sytems yast is now not functioning.
It starts .. but if I click on patch cd update/online update/software install remove .. it runs a few seconds and dies.
I used repair system from cd 1. Three files were fixed which includes yast packagemanager.
Still same as above.
Try running it from a shell to see what messages you get there. That might get you a bit more info. Also, take a look at /var/log/messages for clues as to what is going on or Ctrl-Alt-F10 for system messages and Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back to your gui screen.
Nothing . seems as if the event never happened.
YaST by itself starts other modules. Perhaps this way messages are hidden. But you can also start those modules directly.
Try starting yast like this:
yast
For a list of modules use:
yast --list
E.e. 'yast online_update' for YOU or 'yast sw_single' to install/remove packages.

Hi Leen, Thankyou very much .. thats what I needed .. system now fine after online update with non-gui yast. Now that I understand better .. it was not yast that was broken BUT the GUI part of yast2. The non-GUI part was working fine due to your reply and better understanding. Kind persons like you that makes life easier with linux.
