Is there no-one running nut ? I hope not. I hope my original header was misread. So I repost my questions : Hi, I'm trying to run nut. The UPS is a USB one. I have some questions. First : is there a "standard" way to shut down the machine with nut ? Since I didn't find anything regarding this in the docs of the included (on CD/DVD) nut, I modified the halt-script in /etc/init.d, and this seems to work fairly well. I believe the halt.local script acts to early for this. Second : one of the last things the shutdown-script does is shutdown the UPS, to protect the UPS's battery. When I use the serial version of the UPS-driver this works fine, but with the usb-version there is a message that no ups can be found. I think this is because the usb-drivers are gone at that moment. Is there a way to solve this problem ? I'm using Suse 9.1 and nut 2.0.0, the UPS is an MGE/Ellipse, using the newhidups-driver. Any hints/pointers/thoughts welcome. P.S. I'm subscribed to the NUT-mailing list, and it seems that with Mandrake that driver problem is solved :
yep, we solved it with Mdk guys (on Mdk!). newhidups needs usbfs to be mounted to operate, and most at shutdown time to be able to send the shutoff sequence (UPS delayed power off). So depending on your exact distro, you might look at the halt script so that it doesn't unmount usbfs. I don't have details, but if Mandrake is not too different from SuSE, I'll ask for them.
