SuSE 9.1, all updates, rebooted, tried hotplug restart and re-plugging scanner in all the possible combinations. Scanner worked perfectly in 9.0. Now with xsane, error message always appears:

Just a datapoint here... I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU flatbed scanner with both a USB and a SCSI interface. I am using it via USB with SuSE 9.1 and xsane, and it works perfectly. To set it up, all I did was let Yast2 detect it automagically and took all its default settings. All I do is plug in the USB cable, turn on the scanner, start xsane and start scanning. There are no messages in /var/log/messages related to the scanner that I could find. The device file looks like this: ti@obelisk$ ls -l /dev/*scanner* crw------- 1 ti root 180, 48 2004-04-06 06:27 /dev/usbscanner My /etc/sane.d/epson.conf file looks like this: # epson.conf # # here are some examples for how to configure the EPSON backend # # SCSI scanner: scsi EPSON # # Parallel port scanner: #pio 0x278 #pio 0x378 #pio 0x3BC # # USB scanner - only enable this if you have an EPSON scanner. It could # otherwise block your non-EPSON scanner from being # recognized. # Depending on your distribution, you may need either the # first or the second entry. usb usb 0x4b8 0x10a -Ti
